Synopsis

Born from a mystical stone, the rebellious monkey Sun Wukong spent five hundred years confined beneath a mountain as punishment for defying the celestial order. The bodhisattva Guanyin foretells that a monk named Tang Sanzang will release him, and soon after the monk arrives to free him. Bound to the monk’s protection, Wukong sets out on a pilgrimage from China to India. Along the route they are joined by two companions: the gluttonous but loyal Zhu Bajie and the solemn Sha Wujing. Together the quartet travels toward their destination, confronting supernatural threats, sorcerers, and hostile beings while learning to cooperate and endure the trials of the road.
