Synopsis

Kajika Louisa Kugami Burnsworth, the sole child of powerful industrialist Harry Burnsworth, survived an assassination attempt at age two that claimed her mother's life. To keep her safe, Harry sent Kajika to the remote island of Giviolle, where she was raised by a local named Maria and kept company by a white leopard called Mustafa and the occasional visits of a boy, Li Ren Fang. At fourteen, Kajika is summoned back to her father's estate and told she must undertake a contest arranged by Harry to select a husband. She is instructed to choose among three men Harry has secretly designated; she must identify who they are and find them without any clues beyond their exceptional charisma and intelligence. The candidates do not know they are being considered, and any chosen partner must consent to accept Kajika as his bride. As she navigates this imposed selection, Kajika confronts the weight of her prescribed fate, the persistent danger tied to the earlier attack, and the consequences of a concealed truth about herself that even she does not yet realize. Themes include tender and complex love, fervent emotions, steadfast friendship, family obligations, and political maneuvering, all set against the urgency of protecting Kajika before her hidden reality is revealed.
