Synopsis

A young Haibane emerges from a cocoon in the village known as Old Home, bearing a halo and small gray wings but lacking any recollection of her earlier life. Given the name Rakka because of a falling dream experienced within the cocoon, she adapts to the routines and customs of this peculiar town. The Haibane live under strict prohibitions—most notably, they may not cross the village boundaries or approach the enclosing walls—and the unexplained departures of others during the so-called "Day of Flight" cast a growing uncertainty over their community. With scant knowledge of their origins or the reasons for their existence, Rakka and her fellow Haibane navigate daily responsibilities, personal doubts, and shared anxieties. Their lives are shaped by an effort to move beyond prior suffering they cannot remember and to seek some form of peace or release amid the village's mysteries.
