Synopsis

Set in a future where a minority of people possess psychokinetic powers called Cantus, this story follows Saki Watanabe, who awakens her ability in the town of Kamisu 66 and becomes the last among her friends to enter Sage Academy, a school for those with Cantus. At the academy, variations in power are apparent, and shortly after Saki's arrival a classmate believed to be weaker goes missing. While walking home with her close companions—Maria Akizuki, Shun Aonuma, Satoru Asahina, and Mamoru Itou—Saki encounters two unfamiliar mole-like beings called Monster Rats, creatures that revere Cantus users. When Saki uses her Cantus to aid one of them, she receives profound gratitude, prompting questions about the Monster Rats' role in the community. As another disappearance occurs, Saki and her friends begin a gradual investigation into the events, uncovering hints that the apparently orderly world conceals troubling elements of humanity's history. The narrative maintains a contemplative and uncertain tone as the group seeks answers without revealing future plot developments.
