Synopsis

Naota Nandaba is a sixth-grade boy whose life in a sleepy town is marked by routine and the gap left by his brother Tasuku, who departed for baseball in America. Naota assumes responsibility for the remnants of Tasuku’s life, including his upper bunk and the clingy presence of Tasuku’s former girlfriend, Mamimi Samejima. Unexpectedly, Naota’s ordinary days are disrupted by Haruko Haruhara: a volatile, pink-haired woman who rides a Vespa and plays bass guitar. Their first meeting leaves Naota physically altered and unsettled, and when Haruko moves into his family’s house, Naota’s desire for calm is replaced by involvement in a bizarre and escalating struggle. As he becomes entangled in events far beyond his experience, Naota is drawn into a vast and strange contest for dominance that endangers his town—and potentially more. The story preserves a tone of surreal disruption, adolescent uncertainty, and escalating conflict without revealing key plot resolutions.
