Synopsis

A recurring outbreak called Spontaneous Human Combustion transforms ordinary people into violent, burning beings called Infernals. Subsequent generations of those affected produced pyrokinetics who retain their humanity while controlling fire. To confront this threat and investigate its origins, Tokyo’s Armed Forces, Fire Defense Agency, and the Holy Church of Sol form the Special Fire Force. Shinra Kusakabe, a young third-generation pyrokinetic known for igniting his feet, enlists with Special Fire Force Company 8. The unit’s mission is to extinguish Infernals and release their souls, and Shinra aspires to protect those endangered by the flames. Yet the organization is fractured by rivalries, Infernal incidents are rising across the city, and a secretive faction claims knowledge about the blaze that killed Shinra’s family twelve years earlier. As he navigates internal conflicts and external threats, Shinra seeks the facts behind the enduring mysteries of the fire.
