Synopsis

In a fractured Japan, Lord Daigo Kagemitsu sacrifices his unborn heir to forty-eight demons; the child survives birth maimed and is cast into a river. Fifteen years on, Dororo, a headstrong orphan, scrapes by amid hunger and samurai oppression in a ruined village. After provoking local ruffians, Dororo is rescued when a riverborne monster appears and is slain by a mysterious man who reveals blades hidden within his prosthetic arms. That man, Hyakkimaru, explains that numerous body parts were taken from him by demons, forcing him into a life he had hoped to avoid. Undeterred, Dororo insists on joining him. Together, with a small dog named Nota, Hyakkimaru and Dororo travel through a harsh, war-ravaged landscape, facing both demonic threats and the cruelty of other humans while seeking purpose and survival.
