Synopsis

A decade after leaving to chase a dream that failed, Nagomu Irino returns to Kyoto when his father, proprietor of the family confectionery Ryokushou, is hospitalized. Concerned about the shop's future, he prepares to carry on the family tradition of crafting traditional sweets. Upon arrival he learns his father has already named a successor: Itsuka Yukihira, a ten-year-old girl who was left at Ryokushou by her father for unknown reasons. Though integrated into the shop and beloved by the community, Itsuka still searches for any trace of her father. Moved by her situation, Nagomu’s mother asks him to pose as Itsuka’s father to help her heal. Initially distant, Nagomu and Itsuka slowly open up to one another, discovering unexpected commonalities. United by their affection for Ryokushou and its confections, their evolving bond as a child and surrogate parent gently affects the people around them and brings small comforts into their lives.
