Synopsis

Makoto Naegi, an ordinary teenager without notable skills, is unexpectedly admitted to Hope's Peak Private Academy, a selective school that gathers top students from many disciplines. Though he suspects his acceptance may be a fluke, Naegi is eager to join an institution reputed to set graduates on a path to success. Upon entering the school, he loses consciousness and later regains it in an apparently empty classroom. Confused, he searches the campus and discovers his fellow first-year students gathered in the gym. Their attempt to understand the situation is interrupted by the appearance of the academy's principal: Monokuma, a mechanical teddy bear. Monokuma informs them that they are confined within the school and presents a grim condition for leaving—one student must murder a classmate and avoid detection. Faced with this ultimatum, Naegi and the others must confront whether to take part in the imposed killing game or remain confined together inside the academy indefinitely. The premise centers on fear, suspicion, and the struggle to maintain hope under coercive, life-threatening circumstances.
