Synopsis

Ruka Azumi spends her summer on the handball court to escape life at home, where she lives with an alcoholic mother. After being removed from the team following an incident at practice, she seeks new ways to occupy her days and begins visiting the aquarium where her father works. There she encounters Umi, an enigmatic boy raised by dugongs whose physiology requires constant contact with water and who is kept at the facility for study. Ruka quickly forms a close friendship with Umi, and they are later joined by Sora, Umi’s brother, who also shares an uncommon bond with the sea. Together the three explore a luminous underwater environment and uncover the existence of a mysterious global event—described to them as a festival—that marine life across the world appears to be preparing for. The story follows their growing connections and the discoveries they make beneath the waves, maintaining a contemplative and quietly wondrous tone without revealing later developments.
