Synopsis

On Christmas Eve, four-year-old Miri Unasaka reaches Tokyo alone in search of her father. Drawn by festive lights, she wanders into a hotel where, unknowingly, she becomes entangled in a meticulously planned assassination targeting a dangerous mafia leader. Kazuki Kurusu and Rei Suwa are professional killers who live together, both haunted by harsh childhoods and determined to avoid emotional ties. Their operation derails when they end up taking Miri with them; the immediate practical choice is to reunite her with her mother. Instead, Miri’s spontaneous laughter and unguarded view of the world gradually soften Kazuki, who finds a private satisfaction in assuming a parental role, and begin to open the closed-off Rei as well. Miri’s unpredictable behavior makes daily life with her more demanding than any assignment they have faced. Despite the obvious peril to their livelihoods and the complications that come from sheltering a child, Kazuki and Rei—each called “papa” by Miri—choose to shelter her and strive to give her as ordinary a childhood as possible amid the dangers surrounding them.
