Synopsis

In a future where travel between stars is routine, Marika Katou juggles life as a high school student, a member of the space yacht club, and a restaurant server. After encountering an unusual pair of patrons, she learns her distant father has died and left her his infamous vessel, the Bentenmaru, and its crew. Known in life as the pirate Gonzaemon, he also bequeathed one of the rare Letters of Marque that legally authorize privateering. Faced with the choice to remain an ordinary student or assume command and a perilous second life, Marika must weigh both paths. Her dilemma draws attention from government bodies and from Chiaki Kurihara, a transfer student whose motives are unclear, all of whom watch to see whether the new captain will match the late pirate’s legacy. For the Bentenmaru’s crew to keep their standing, they must return to the open void and reestablish themselves as a feared force.
