Eiichirou Maruo, a conscientious and organized honor student, takes up more exercise to address concerns about his health and, after spotting a notice, enrolls in the Southern Tennis Club early in his first year. At a trial session he encounters Natsu Takasaki, another freshman whose ambition is to turn professional driven by a deep love of tennis. Eiichirou, whose life centers on study because he feels obligated rather than fulfilled, begins to experience change as repetitive routines are interrupted by the sport. Through persistent practice and his disciplined, perfectionist approach, he gradually becomes captivated by tennis and shapes a playing method that reflects his personality. Over time his technique and confidence grow as he aims to measure himself against top competitors.
