Synopsis

Sixteenth-century Florence pulses with artistic revival. Arte, a spirited young woman from an aristocratic household, aspires to become an artist and contribute to the cultural renewal of her time. The death of her father removes her primary supporter, and social pressure pushes her toward a noble marriage and a life as a discreet, respectable wife. Unwilling to surrender her ambitions, Arte leaves the comforts of her class and seeks a master willing to accept her as an apprentice. She confronts entrenched prejudice: most artisans refuse to train a woman, convinced that fine craftsmanship is beyond female capability. Eventually, a well-known craftsman named Leo, who lacks an apprentice, agrees to take her on. Arte then begins a new existence away from aristocratic privilege, working to support herself and facing the practical trials and setbacks inherent in the demanding path to becoming a recognized master artisan.
