Synopsis

Shouya Ishida, once a troublesome elementary student, relieved boredom by cruelly targeting others. When Shouko Nishimiya, a deaf girl, joins his class, Shouya and his peers harass her thoughtlessly. After Shouko’s mother complains to the school, Shouya becomes the primary scapegoat for the abuse and faces sustained ostracism from classmates throughout elementary and middle school as teachers fail to intervene. Now in his final year of high school, Shouya remains burdened by remorse. Determined to confront what he did, he pursues a path of atonement by seeking out Shouko to apologize. The story follows their reunion and Shouya’s earnest efforts to make amends while he continues to contend with lingering guilt and the repercussions of his past behavior.
