Synopsis

Long ago, humanity lived under the ocean, though some chose to leave and live on land. Those who abandoned the sea lost Ena, the natural ability to breathe underwater, and over generations a divide grew between sea-dwellers and surface residents. Nagi no Asu kara centers on Hikari Sakishima, Manaka Mukaido, and their childhood companions Chisaki Hiradaira and Kaname Isaki, who must relocate from beneath the waves to attend a school on the shore. There they befriend Tsumugu Kihara, a student and fisherman with a strong connection to the sea. The series follows the group as they navigate entrenched resentment and discrimination between the two peoples, manage upheavals in their private lives, and confront an ominous storm that threatens those living on land. The narrative maintains an emotional, contemplative tone as it explores cultural separation, changing identities, and the looming natural peril.
